Mandatory dog course Canton Zurich from June 1, 2025

 Everyday life with a dog brings many wonderful moments, but also responsibility. To support dog owners in the Canton of Zurich in creating a safe and relaxed coexistence, the practical training course is mandatory from June 1, 2025.

This course offers you and your dog the opportunity to learn the most important basics for a harmonious, safe, and practical relationship in everyday life. The focus is not on performance, but on orientation, communication, and practical application in daily life.

You can start the course no earlier than when your dog is 6 months old. It must be completed no later than twelve months after acquiring the dog or moving to the Canton of Zurich.

The practical training course takes place in small groups and is deliberately structured to reflect everyday life. Step by step, we work on typical situations you will encounter in your daily life. The goal is to give you confidence in handling your dog and to provide your dog with clear guidance.

 This is what you can expect to find in the practical training course:

•  Leash training and basic obedience (sit, down, recall, stop signal)
•  Training in everyday situations (encounters with people, dogs, city and nature)
•  Safe behavior in public spaces
•  Building trust and clear communication between you and your dog

 In the course you will learn how to guide your dog in an understandable way, better understand its behavior and remain calm and able to act even in more challenging situations.

Your dog learns to orient himself to you, to react to signals, and to move safely in everyday life.

The practical training course creates a solid foundation for a relaxed coexistence in the canton of Zurich and supports you in fulfilling the legal requirements in a professionally sound and practical manner.
