The classification of dog breeds into groups and sections

FCI stands for Fédération Cynologique Internationale, the largest international federation of canine organizations. Cynology is the study of dog breeds and the breeding of domestic dogs. Accordingly, the federation is not only responsible for classifying dog breeds into groups and sections, but also for establishing breeding and breed standards. This means that the institution defines a breed description that must apply to the dog. Only then is it officially considered a purebred. Here you can learn about the ten FCI groups and sections and what else the organization entails.
