Orientation, clear communication, and confident together
Walks are an important part of everyday life together, and at the same time, we encounter many different situations outdoors. Distractions, a tight leash, or encounters with other dogs can quickly become challenging. With clear communication, good management, and targeted training, these situations can be handled in a more structured and relaxed way.
The Confident walks course is designed for human-dog teams who want to work on the foundations for more relaxed walks. Over six progressive lessons, you will learn how to provide your dog with guidance and a sense of security, and how to navigate different situations together. The aim is not simply to endure difficult situations, but to recognise them early and handle them in a constructive way.
The lessons are practical and based on realistic situations you may encounter during a walk. Step by step, we work on focus and orientation, loose-leash walking, and a structured approach to encounters. You will learn how to read your dog more effectively, communicate clearly, and use training and management strategies that are appropriate for each situation.
Course topics include:
- Focus and orientation towards you
- Clear communication during walks
- Relaxed, loose-leash walking
- Effective management of challenging situations
- Recognising encounters with other dogs early and guiding your dog through them
- Creating appropriate distance and giving your dog a sense of safety
- Strategies for greater calm and confidence while out and about
Through a variety of exercises and distractions, your dog will learn to orient themselves towards you more effectively while out and develop new strategies for dealing with different situations. At the same time, you will gain practical tools and a better understanding of when training is appropriate and when good management is the better solution.
You will learn to assess situations early, communicate clearly, and guide your dog safely through everyday life using appropriate training and management strategies.
Your dog will learn to look to you for guidance, walk more calmly on the leash, and cope more effectively with different situations and encounters.
Confident walks gives you the foundations for more structured and relaxed walks. The course provides you with the skills and confidence to guide your dog clearly and navigate a variety of everyday situations together with greater confidence.
