How to handle dog encounters calmly
Dog encounters are part of everyday life, yet they can be genuinely challenging for many human–dog teams. Pulling on the leash, barking, avoiding, or freezing are often not “bad habits,” but signs of stress, insecurity, or being overwhelmed. This can make walks exhausting and often leads to frustration on both sides.
In the Encounters Course – The Basics, we support you and your dog in navigating encounters more calmly and systematically. In this modular course with five consecutive lessons, you’ll learn how to provide your dog with protection and guidance instead of simply enduring difficult situations. We work in a safe, manageable setting with controlled encounters and practical everyday exercises. The goal is not the “perfect” encounter, but more responsiveness, orientation, and calmness, step by step and at your own pace.
Course content:
- Recognizing and understanding body language
- Building alternative behaviors in a targeted way
- Handling conflict situations
- Training in a safe environment with controlled encounters
You will learn to recognize signals early, assess situations realistically, and offer your dog clear, supportive protection and guidance.
Your dog learns to rely on learned strategies and cope better with encounters.
This introductory course creates a solid foundation for more relaxed walks and further training steps.
